"Andraci, Jepuri and Other Most Important Monsterst of Petrovgrad and Central Banat"

National Theatre Toša Jovanović / Puppet Stage, Zrenjanin

The literary scene of Banat abounds in outstanding authors, many of whom have found their place in school textbooks and everyday reading. Vojislav Despotov was a poet who also worked in hybrid forms of verbal and visual art, as well as in essay writing, prose, and translation. Petrograd Dust and Andraci, Jepuri and Other Most Important Monsters of Petrograd and Central Banat are works primarily intended for children, but equally engaging for adults. The eclecticism of Despotov’s literary expression has inspired an equally eclectic stage production, incorporating elements of animation and black light theatre—that is, a play of light and darkness. In terms of genre, the performance can be described as a blend of thriller, crime drama, and horror, with each of these modes finding its own distinctive theatrical language. A special artistic imprint has been given by Blagovesta Vasileva, who, through the overall design of the production, brings Despotov’s imaginative world vividly to life.
